Queen Elizabeth II R.I.P

Her late Majesty, Elizabeth II was a woman of profound faith and lived her life fulfilling the oath made in her ‘salad days’ when she was twenty one, to do her duty for as long as she would live. During her life she has seen many changes in technology, communication and science, and she has moved with the times embracing all of them. Who knew when she made that oath at the age of twenty one that she would go on to rule over the United Kingdom, and other nations as head of state, for seven decades.

The television coverage has been full of stories of her grace, her kindness, her ability to listen; we have been reminded of her brilliant smile that would light up her surroundings; her love of animals and the countryside – an example for all of us to follow.

The historian, Robert Lacey, said how Elizabeth II knew that while she may be very grand and wear a crown, she always knew there was a greater king above her.

I’d like to think that perhaps she is now having a discussion with that Greater King – a debrief if you like, as hers was a role thrust upon her when she was a young woman the same age as that other great Queen Elizabeth of the sixteenth century.

God rest your Soul, Your Majesty. Thank you for your seventy years of devoted service. May you rest in peace.
